Chairman Hua Honglin said yesterday the company had signed a memorandum of understanding with the local authority to develop a 700 m long quay into an 11-berth terminal dedicated to handle river-ocean transhipment.
Each of the 11 berths will have an annual capacity of 60,000 teu and cost around Yuan20m ($2.6m) to build, said Mr Hua.
The terminal is expected to become operational next year.
Meanwhile, Chu Kong Shipping is also in talks with Hong Kong Airport Authority about the expansion of its 51%-owned Marine Cargo Terminal on the northeast shore of Hong Kong International Airport.
