Most of the supply of this seawater is currently to large industries, which have laid down their own delivery networks and pumps connected to predetermined and allocated chambers.
MISC is investing in its own network of pipes and pumps (Common Cooling Water System or CCWS) through which it will make seawater available on a 24x7 basis to industries requiring smaller volume of cooling water.
The chairman of MISC, on Monday signed a contract agreement for the first package of the CCWS with Al Hassan Engineering Co. SAOG, the EPC contractor for this part of the project. The EPC contract was awarded by the Tender Board at a value of RO3,209,749.
To meet the requirement of the present users, three number of pump sets with associated valves and fitting up to common manifold, electrical supply and control panel will be provided initially. Additional two pump sets will be installed in future as water demand increases. The project is targeted to be fully commissioned by August 2008.
Once commissioned, cooling water will be supplied through network to specific users (industrial projects) in Sipa. Projects like Aromatics Oman LLC and Air Liquide Sohar Industrial Gases LLC will be among the first beneficiaries of the system.
