Safmarine will launch a second direct weekly shipping service between West Africa and Asia - the Far East West Africa 2 (FEW 2) service – to boost the growing trade between the two regions.
Safmarine will share the FEW2 service – which will start on September 3, 2007 – with sister-company Maersk Line.
Direct port calls will be made at Port Kelang (Malaysia), Tanjung Pelepas (Malaysia), Lome (Togo), Cotonou (Benin) and Lagos/Apapa (Nigeria).
The former WAF 10 service will be renamed the Far East/West Africa 1 (FEW1) service, and will offer a new port rotation of Nansha (Pearl River Delta, China), Hong Kong, Tanjung Pelepas (Malaysia) in the Far East and Walvis Bay (Namibia), Tema (Ghana), Lagos/Apapa (Nigeria) in West Africa.
Alan Jones, Safmarine’s executive for the Africa region, points out that the revised FEW1 and new FEW2 services are not the only services available to Safmarine customers involved in the Asia-West Africa trade.
“Safmarine customers also have access to both these regions through the extensive AP Moller-Maersk Group network of direct transhipment services covering the whole of Asia and Africa,” said Jones.
