St. Petersburg Transport-and-Transit Policy Committee (TTPC) has started development of a program for improvement of the city's transport-and logistics complex (TLC) till 2025, PortNews IAA learnt from Nikolai Asaul, Chairman of St. Petersburg Transport-and-Transit Policy Committee, at the second transport-and-logistics conference ProLOG-2007. According to Asaul, the city is Russia’s leader in terms of investments into the development of the transport-and-logistics complex. “We think a number of projects aimed at solution of federal tasks throughout state support basing on federal budget will be included into a yet-to-be-launched federal special-purpose program for “Development of Russia’s Transport System by 2015,” Asaul said.
He also reminded that in early July 2007, St. Petersburg Government approved the general strategy for development of the city’s transport-and logistics complex. The Strategy provisions the plans for infrastructure development at the Big Port of St. Petersburg as well as development of the system of the port’s logistic terminals (so called “dry ports”) in order to ensure the increase of the port’s throughput owing to more efficient operation of the insufficient near-berth territories. Besides, the Strategy implies the development of a network of transport-and-logistics centers and “terminal villages” with taking temporary storage warehouses outside the belt highway. Asaul also noted it is important to focus on handling technology-intensive, economically sound and environmentally friendly cargoes considering requirements of urban environment.
