Shanghai's trade value up 21pc to US$521 billion in 2007

Shanghai Customs recorded a trade value of US$520.9 billion in 2007, up 21.4 per cent compared to 2006, taking up 25 per cent of China's total, according to Shanghai Customs commissioner Bian Zuyao.
Mr Bian said Shanghai Customs handled 54,800 declaration forms last year and $2.1 billion in cargo on an average working day.
From January to November, Shanghai's trade value amounted to US$473.2 billion, up 21.3 per cent year on year. Foreign trade cargo came to 18.2 million TEU, up 26.5 per cent. Overall tonnage rose 10.7 per cent to 130 million tons, said Xinhua.
