State-owned Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines) will build the 1,200-hectare Hai Phong International Gateway Port, capable of handling about 100 million tonnes of goods a year. Construction is set to start in May and be ready in 2020. From 2008 to 2010, Vinalines will build two stations and 600 metres of wharf capable of handling 50,000-ton ships. From 2010 to 2020, it will construct more relevant facilities.
Vinalines will also start work on the Van Phong seaport in central Khanh Hoa province on Jan 25, with a total investment of US$4 billion. Once ready, it can receive 400,000-ton vessels.
