Meeting of the biologic section of the Scientific Council, where the report on the results of scientific maintenance of saury fishing in 2007 was listened to, was held in the TINRO-Center.
As the press-secretary of the TINRO-Center Elena YERKHOVA reported to RIA PrimaMedia, the scientific group of three people under the direction of the Head of the headquarters of the expedition Victor FILATOV carried out scientific provision on the vessels of the Preobrazhenskaya base of trawling fleet.
Research showed that the fishing season of 2007 was warmer than usually on temperature rate. Favorable conditions for formation of congestions of saury shoals, which is very effectively caught, were situated in the zone of a subtropical whirlwind. In contrast to 2004-2006, the whirlwind to middle of September was situated a little bit to the west and nearer to Hokkaido than to islands of Small Kurily Ridge.
The fishing conditions while catching saury from the first decade of September to the second decade of October of 2007 differed by high stability and effectiveness in connection with rather large quantity of fish, stable approaches of shoals from eastern sites and partially from the Sea of Okhotsk.
As a whole, efficiency of fishing in 2007 exceeded much more the average parameters and parameters of the last year, however it was below the parameters of 2004-2005. Total catch of saury by Russian vessels amounted to 110 thousand tons and became a record in the history of Russian fishing industry. High efficiency was appreciably caused by well coordinated work on scientific provision of fishing, carried out by the TINRO-Center.
Thanks to such work in fishing seasons from 2002 to 2007, in spite of frequent change of fishing sites, unproductive expenses of catching fleet for research operations were almost completely excluded. Besides, thanks to explaining work and recommendations of specialists of the TINRO-Center about opportunity of saury catch in the second decade of November and the first decade of December with rather high efficiency, most of the Russian vessels in contrast to previous years continued fishing during this period.
As in 2004-2006, a part of fleet after completing quotas in the exclusive economic zone of Russia has continued work in neutral waters where they extracted 24 thousand tons.
