Newcastle plans third coal export terminal
BHP Billiton has confirmed it will spend about AUS $447m ($391 million) on the new third coal export terminal for the port of Newcastle.
The total expected cost of the terminal is AUS $1.1bn ($962 million). BHP holds a 35.5% stake in the Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group project.
The project involves the construction of coal exporting plant with a capacity of 30 million tonnes per year coal, which may later expand to 66 million tonnes per year.
