North-Western Department of Russia’s nature supervision watchdog RosPrirodNadzor proposed GrazdanGidroStroy LLC (lessee of the MB-1218 tug-boat, which sank in the Gulf of Finland on December 13) to voluntarily compensate for damage to the water body. RosPrirodNadzor states over 8 tonnes of oil products entered the waters of the Gulf of Finland in the Baltic Sea. According to a special method for damage calculation approved by the Ministry of Natural Resources, the damage totaled RUR 19.2 million. The MB-1218 tug-boat is the property of the Ulyanovsk region Department of Automobile Roads and held on lease by GrazdanGidroStroy LLC. Oil spill response activities were carried out by Ecoshelf-Baltica LLC. On January 26, 2008, the vessel was raised under ecological supervision of Baltic direction on technical supervision at the sea. In the nearest future, the results of industrial ecological control are to be furnished to RosPrirodNadzor.
