Throughput of Ukraine’s state port sector down 3.4% in Jan. 07 to 9.2 million tonnes

According to the information provided by the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Ukraine, throughput of state port sector (18 commercial seaports) fell in all sectors in except import. Its share in total transshipment grew from 9.2%, year-on-year, to 15.1%, RZD-Partner reports. In January, export fell by 4.4%, year-on-year, transit - by 13.7%, coastal trade cargo – by 27.4%. In general, the throughput fell by 3.4% to 9.2 million tonnes. However import grew by 57.8% to 1.39 million tonnes. In January 2007 it accounted for 9.2% of total throughput, this year– 15.1%. The throughput fell in 8 of 18 commercial seaports. The year of 2007 saw the growth of almost all the state ports (excluding those of Evpatoria and Ust-Danube). The ports of Odessa and Iljichevsk increased their dry cargo export by 34% and 33% respectively. In 2007, both ports demonstrated export transshipment decrease.

In general, transshipment of dry cargo in state ports of Ukraine fell by 3.6% in January 08, year-on-year, to 6.695 million tonnes. Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo grew by 6.1%.
