In January-February 2008, Vostochny Port OJSC increased its throughput by 19%, year-on-year, to 2.454.2 million tonnes, the port’s press center informs. In the reported period, Multi-purpose Production-and-Transshipment Complex handled 270,600 tonnes of cargo (+157%), Specialized Coal Complex – 2.183.6 million tonnes of coal (+12%).
Director General of Vostochny Port OJSC Sergei Kushnarev, attributes the growth to the increase in export of coal (195,900 tonnes against 30,300 tonnes in January-February 2007) as well as in transshipment of scrap metal (23,300 tonnes against 2,500 tonnes in January-February 2007) and ammonia sulfate (30,100 tonnes against 12,300 tonnes in January-February 2007).Export coal accounts for 97% of the company’s total throughput. In January-February 2008 it handled 2.379.5 million tonnes (+120%, year-on-year).
In February 2008 the company increased its throughput by 29%, year-on-year, to 1.169.7 million tonnes. Multi-purpose Production-and-Transshipment Complex handled 132,400 tonnes of different cargo (+90%), Specialized Coal Complex – 1.037.3 million tonnes of coal (+24%).
