Throughput of port Kavkaz up 0.3% y-o-y, in Jan-Feb 08, to 739,800 tonnes

In January-February, 2008, port Kavkaz handled 739,770 tonnes of cargo (+0.28%, year-on-year), PortNews IAA learnt from Taman branch of RosMorPort FSUE. In the reported period, transshipment of export cargo totaled 565,990 tonnes (+0.82%, year-on-year), import - 269,000 tonnes (-10.3%, year-on-year). In January-February 2008, port Kavkaz handled 196,270 tonnes of general cargo, 530,480 tonnes of oil cargo. The port handled 148 vessels, which is similar to the level of the previous year.  

Port Kavkaz is situated at the border of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov at Kerch Strait from the side of Russia. The port is ice-free, so it is able to handle both river vessels (draft of up to 5 meters) and sea vessels (off-harbor handling of vessels with a draft of up to 11 meters). The territory of the port is crossed by a 2,600-meter long railway line. The port handles loose cargo, as well as general cargo and timber.
