Japanese logistics companies expand network in China

Japanese logistics giants Fukuyama, Nippon Express and Kintetsu Express have been expanding their transportation network in China, Xinhua reported.
Fukuyama Transporting Co, the seventh largest logistics company in Japan, has reached a cooperation agreement with China Chengtong Group, which boasts a nationwide freight railway network and 40 logistic bases in China, the report said.
The two companies will contract out distribution services in Japan and China to each other. The two will then set up a joint venture to open and run distribution centres in different parts of China.
The joint venture will introduce Fukuyama's know-how in distribution management and cutting-edge information technology to expand the network that can satisfy the logistics demand of Japanese companies and the Chinese market.
Meanwhile, Nippon Express the largest logistics company in Japan, will increase shares in its joint venture in China as part of it plan to expand China network, the report said.
Nippon Express is now negotiating with its partner in China to increase its share in Nippon Express (China) Co Ltd to more than 90 per cent, the report added.
While Japanese airfreight forwarder Kintetsu Express also plans to double its logistics operations in China by the year 2012.
