In January-February, 2008, Vanino Commercial Seaport OJSC handled 1.041.2 million tonnes (+11.1%, year-on-year), the port informs. In the reported period, import grew 2.5 times to 252,100 tonnes including 219,600 tonnes of alumina (+127.1%). Export totaled 470,200 tonnes (-11.2%) including 229,300 tonnes of timber (-32.9%), 122,500 tonnes of non-ferrous metal (+24.4%), 31,000 tonnes of ferrous metal (+54.1%), 82,000 tonnes of coal (+25.1%). Transshipment of coastal trade cargo amounted to 49,000 tonnes (-0.9%). The port’s ferry complex handled 269,800 tonnes of cargo (+4.4%). In the 2-month period of the current year the stevedoring company handled 13,100 wagons and 265 vessels (including 116 ferries). The port’s container throughput totaled 4,387 TEU including 509,500 tonnes of cargo handled in February (+19.5%, year-on-year).
