Throughput of Tallinn port down 32.5%, y-o-y, in Jan-Feb 08, to 5 million tonnes

In January-February, 2008, throughput of the port of Tallinn totaled 5.077.2 million tonnes (-32.5%, year-on-year), the port informs. In February, the port handled 2.651.6 million tonnes of cargo.
In January-February, transshipment of import cargo amounted to 526,000 tonnes, export - 461,800 tonnes, transit – some 4,000 million tonnes (-41%, year-on-year).
Transshipment of loose dry cargo fell by 70.9%, year-on-year, to 635,000 tonnes, general cargo - - down 30.1% to 87,200 tonnes, liquid bulk cargo – down 20% to 3.554.5 million tonnes.
Transshipment of coal fell from 1.278.3 million tonnes in January-February 2007 to 54,000 tonnes in the 2-month period of this year, fertilizers – down from 302,000 tonnes to 126,000 tonnes respectively. However, transshipment of containers grew by 8.4% to 26,420 TEU (196,300 tonnes). Transshipment of ro-ro cargo amounted to 584,700 unit.
In the reported period, passenger traffic grew by 22.9% to 841,800 people. The majority of passengers were transported by Tallinn-Helsinki (722,500 people) and Tallinn-Stockholm (109,200 people) lines.
The number of calls fell by 9.3% to 1,167 including 369 calls made by cargo vessels.
