In January-February 2008, the port of Kotka (Finland) handled 1.7 million tonnes of cargo (excluding containers and ro-ro cargo), which is a 7.7-percent increase, year-on-year, the port informs. In February, the port handled 874,500 tonnes of cargo. In the 2-month period, export totaled 758,980 tonnes (-12%, year-on-year). Transshipment of sawn timber fell by 36.9%, year-on-year, general cargo – by 31.4%, paper and cardboard – by 13.9%. Transshipment of cellulose grew by 27%, scrap metal – by 61.7%. Transshipment of import cargo grew by 31.5%, year-on-year, to 412,250 tonnes. Import of kaolin fell by 13.1%, oil - by 65.2%), while transshipment of round timber grew by 124.6% to 256,000 tonnes. The volume of transit cargo handled in the port in January-February 2008 amounted to 500,000 tonnes (+33.5%, year-on-year).
In the reported period, container throughput amounted to 91,451 TEU (+16%, year-on-year), or 667,500 tonnes. The volume of ro-ro cargo fell by 2.7% to 3,898 units.
