German court authorizes construction of a new container terminal in Wilhelmshaven

A state administration court has denied requests for an injunction against the planned construction of a new container terminal in Wilhelmshaven, thus paving the way for Germany’s largest port expansion project.
The judges in Lüneburg ordered noise barriers to be built, but did not follow any further requests from environmental groups and local residents.
“This is good news,” said Bremen port senator Ralf Nagel. “Construction can start immediately.”
The Jade-Weser-Port project is supported by the states of Bremen and Lower Saxony.
Whether building will commence right away is not clear, as the contractor wants more money than originally envisaged due to steel price increases.
