Hyundai Merchant Marine plans to expand services from next month

Hyundai Merchant Marine Company, Koreas leading shipping line by gross tonnage, said yesterday it plans to expand its shipping volume on a route linking Busan, Hong Kong and Dubai next month.
Starting April 11, Hyundai Merchant Marine will operate five 4,600 TEU container ships on the route instead of 2,200 TEU vessels because of soaring flow of products, the company said in a statement. TEU is short for 20-foot equivalent unit.
Container cargo flows have apparently been increasing between Asia and the Middle East, as higher oil prices have increased the purchasing power of the Middle Eastern countries, said a company official. We will expand our business in the Middle Eastern shipping markets.Hyundai Merchant Marine will launch a route connecting China and the United Arab Emirates in mid-April and increase shipping volumes on the routes linking the Chinese port city of Ningbo and Dubai, the company said.
