Throughput of Vostochny port up 17%, y-o-y, in Jan-Feb 08, to 3.4 million tonnes

In January-February, 2008, Vostochny Port handled 3.641.4 million tonnes of cargo (+17%, year-on-year), PortNews IAA learnt from Vostochny branch of RosMorPort FSUE. In the reported period, transshipment of dry cargo totaled 3.317.8 million tonnes (+17%, year-on-year) including 2.757.4 million tonnes of bulk and loose cargo (+19,4%). Transshipment of coal and coke amounted to 2.567.1 million tonnes (+20.4%), mineral fertilizers – 185,300 tonnes (+7.7%), timber – 28,500 tonnes (2.6 times down against January-February 2007). Transshipment of general cargo fell 5-fold to 35,500 tonnes including 23,300 tonnes of scrap metal (up 3.5-fold). The port’s container throughput totaled 58,322 TEU (+12.2%). In the reported period the port handled 43,600 tonnes of oil products (+14.1%).

Vostochny port is the deepest Far-Eastern port of Russia. It is located in the southern part of the Primorsky Krai on the shore of the Sea of Japan within 20 kilometers from Nakhodka – end point of Trans-Siberian Line. The port has year round navigation. The port is possible of handling vessels with a draft up to 15.5 meters, length up to 280 meters and breadth up to 40 meters. The port comprises 15 cargo berths, a number of auxiliary berths and a maintenance pier. Total length of the berthing line is about 4 kilometers. These berths are part of terminals used for transshipment of coal, containers, fertilizers, methanol, timber, bulk and general cargo.
