Abu Dhabi Port awards two earthworks contracts for $272 million
Abu Dhabi Ports Company awarded two earthworks contracts worth 1 billion dirhams ($272 million) as it presses ahead with development of the Khalifa Port & Industrial Zone, the emirate's second container terminal.
The 36-month contracts, which involve more than 40 million cubic meters of landfill, were awarded to Al Jaber Transport & General Contracting LLC and Ghantoot Transport & General Contracting Establishment, the state-controlled Abu Dhabi-based port developer said in an e-mailed statement today.
Located at Taweelah between Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, the Khalifa project will comprise a container port and more than 100 square kilometers (39 square miles) of business parks and tax-free zones. The first vessel is expected to arrive by the end of 2010.
