In January-February, 2008, Sea Port of St. Petersburg handled 8.564.8 million tonnes of cargo (+7%, year-on-year), the port’s administration announces, Interfax reports according to Gudok.ru. Transshipment of dry bulk grew by 16% - to 1.426.4 million tonnes. Transshipment of ore grew 3-fold to 302,800 tonnes, mineral fertilizers – by 18%, to 935,800 tonnes.
Transshipment of loose cargo fell by 18% - to 66,100 tonnes, timber – by 32% to 266,300 tonnes. In January-February, 2008, the port handled 1.990 million tonnes of general cargo (similar to the same period of the previous year) including 436,400 tonnes of ferrous metal (down by 31%), 216,400 tonnes of non-ferrous metal (-3%), 279,900 tonnes of scrap metal (+4%), 653,600 tonnes of refrigerated cargo (+14%). Turnover of containerized cargo grew by 19% to 2.920.1 million tonnes, oil cargo – by 3% to 1.896 million tonnes. In the reported period, the port’s turnover of vessels totaled 2,048. Sea Port of St. Petersburg is the largest of 28 stevedoring companies operating at the territory of the port of St. Petersburg.
