In January-April 2008, Rostovski Port OJSC handled 339,300 tonnes (+1.5%, year-on-year). According to the port’s department for marketing and logistics, the volume of export cargo handled by the port totaled 201,400 tonnes, import - 132,900 tonnes. The port handled mainly metal, scrap metal, alumina, betonitic clay, ore and coal, YugMedia.Ru reports.
Rostovski Port OJSC was set up in 1993. The port of Rostov is located on both sides of the Don river within the limits of Rostov. It comprises 18 automated cargo berths fitted with 37 cranes. Total quay length is 2549 meters. Sixteen 5,000-dwt vessels with draft of up to 4 meters may be simultaneously handled at the port’s berths. The port’s capacity is 11.3 thou tonnes per day as the port station may handle up to 126 wagons per day.
