Hyundai Motor Group is eyeing the delivery of components to its Russian plans via the seaports of Nakhodka. According to Nakhodka administration, the port has been visited by a delegation of Korean businessmen including Kim Ho, President of Global Logistics (subdivision of Hyundai Motor Group responsible for logistics, marketing and export).
Today Hyundai Motor has its production facilities in Taganrog with a capacity of 120,000 units per year. Besides, the construction of Hyundai plant in St. Petersburg is to be commenced in June of the current year. It is to produce100,000 cars per year.
According to Jung Ki Hong, the expansion of Hyundai activities in Russia requires the increase of equipment delivery. At the initial stage it may total 50,000 TEU per year and it is to double with the launch of the new plant.
According to Oleg Kolyadin, head of Nakhodka city, there are several places in Nakhodka able to ensure transshipment of containers coming from Korea Republic. Besides Vostochny and Commercial ports, the development of container business will start at the Fishing port as well. Five berths are to be reconstructed there. The design capacity is to reach 400,000 containers per year.
Kolyadin also said local ports are ready to raise transshipment of containerized cargo which was limited by low capacity of railway approaches. Active work is being carried out there to improve the situation: reconstruction of Nakhodka central stations has been almost completed.
