Ports of Donetsk region decrease cargo handling by 33.7% to 2.8 million tonnes in Q1 08

In the first quarter of 2008, the ports of Donetsk region fell by 33.7%, year-on-year, to 2.8 million tonnes, the region’s statistics department informs according to RBC-Ukraine. In the reported period, export totaled 1.9 million tonnes (68% of total volume), which is a 40-percent decrease, year-on-year. Transshipment of transit cargo amounted to 0.8 million tonnes (29% of total volume), a 14.2-percent decrease, year-on-year; import - 0.07 million tonnes (2%), 3.8-time increase, year-on-year; domestic cargo transportation – 0.03 million tonnes (1%) – 3.6-time  decrease. The majority of cargoes were handled by commercial seaport of Mariupol.
