Volume of transit cargo handled in Finnish ports up 38.6% to 1.8 mln t in Q1 08

In January-March, 2008, the volume of transit cargo handled in the ports of Finland grew by 38.6%, year-on-year, to 1.79 million tonnes, Finnish Port Association reports. Export of transit cargo totaled 881,300 tonnes (+68.7%), import – 903,960 tonnes (+18.1%).
The leader in this sector was the port of Kotka – 748,500 tonnes (+31.1%), the second one – Hamina – 406,550 tonnes (+33.3%), the third– Kokkola – 370,400 tonnes (+192.3%). The volume of transit cargo handled in the port of Hanko amounted to 187,200 tonnes (-4.1%), Turku– 31,900 tonnes (+26.1%), Helsinki – 40,600 tonnes (-36.1%).
