First phase of New Doha Port (Qatar) to cost $4.5bn

The First Phase of the New Doha Port, which has a capacity of 1,100 big commercial ships and 3,500 maritime provision and maintenance ships, is estimated to cost $4.5bn, according to Abdullah Al Khanji, Director of Marine Services Department in the Customs and Ports General Authority.
Al Khanji, who was speaking to a local Arabic daily, revealed that all studies related to the construction of the port will be released shortly, adding that the port will be built in three phases and completed by 2025.
Meanwhile, Faisal Sa'ad, director of the Ras Laffan Port, said that the first phase of the expansion of the port will be completed in December. The cost of the expansion, he said, was estimated at $2.1bn, pointing out that the second phase will be completed in 2010 and will cost $1.5bn.
