Far Eastern Railway increases freight turnover

4.8 million tons of cargo was shipped by the Far Eastern Railway in April. It is 106.3 % of the rates of last year.

As RIA PrimaMedia was informed in the Department of Public Relations of the Far Eastern Railway, the results are the following: coal - 1mln 490 thousand tons, oil products - 859.9 thousand tons, lumber - 754.5 thousand tons, imported cargo - 449.9 thousand tons. The freight turnover of main cargo increased considerably in comparison with the rates of last year: ferrous materials - 105.6 thousand tons (166%), cement - 314.9 thousand tons (386.5%), iron-and-steel scrap - 50.4 thousand tons (157.6%).

In 4 months of 2008 18.2 million tons of cargo was shipped, it exceeds the rates of the corresponding period of last year by 1.26mln tons. The maximum handling at Vladivostok branch of the railway comes to 6.2mln tons and at Komsomolsk branch - 5.2 mln tons.

The growth in handling of imported cargo is 34.5% in comparison with the rates of last year (the total of 1.7mln tons of cargo was shipped in 4 months). 

In April the average daily handling came to 4172 wagons (it is 102.3% of the rates of last year), in 4 months it is 4120 wagons (103.2%).
