Limits of Big Port of St. Petersburg to be determined by August 2008

The limits of Big Port of St. Petersburg are to be determined in two months, Nikolai Asaul, Chairman of the Committee for Transit Transport Policy of St. Petersburg told journalists. According to Mr. Asaul, there are no plans to cut the port’s territory. Moreover, it may be expanded by additional plots in Kronshtadt, Bronka and Lomonosov. There are plans to decrease cargo handling at the territories of industrial enterprises with the access to the port’s water area. Mr. Asaul also noted that part of the territory of Kirovski Zavod aimed for terminal construction is to be included into the port’s limits. Big Port of St. Petersburg is located on the islands in the mouth of the Neva-river, in the Neva Bay at the eastern side of the Gulf of Finland (Baltic Sea). The Port’s water area consists of 5 basins: Vostochny, Barochny, Passazhirski, Lesnoi Mol roads and Ugolnaya (Coal) Harbor covering the total area of 360 hectares. The port’s territory is 269 hectares. The Port is linked with the sea by a 27-mile Marine Canal.
