ERS Railways to expand links between Rotterdam, Italy and Poland

In 2007, figures for ERS Railways, the main rail operator for containers in Rotterdam, were 13.2 % up on 2006.
The number of TEUs handled rose from 532,000 to 602,000. Of the destinations relevant for Rotterdam, Poland showed particularly marked growth. Germany and Italy exceeded the forecasts. In order to meet the increasing market demand, ERS has been operating three services a week between Rotterdam and Bologna since March. This brings the number of Italy-Rotterdam shuttles to 36 round trips a week.
As of 1 June 2008, the company will offer two dedicated departures a week between Rotterdam and Warsaw. These trains will mainly carry continental and short-sea cargo. They hope to extend this to three departures a week, starting in the fourth quarter of 2008.
