In January-April, 2008, throughput of Big Port of St. Petersburg grew by 6%, year-on-year, to 18.6 million tonnes, the port’s administration informs. In the reported period transshipment of dry bulk totaled 2.9 million tonnes (+9%, year-on-year), loose bulk cargo - 138,500 tonnes (-24%, year-on-year), general cargo 4.8 million tonnes (+5%, year-on-year). The port’s container throughput grew by 16% to 6.2 million tonnes, liquid bulk cargo - by 2% to 3.8 million tonnes.
Port of St. Petersburg is located on the islands in the mouth of the Neva-river, in the Neva Bay at the eastern side of the Gulf of Finland (Baltic Sea).
