Freeport of Riga to build multifunctional transshipment complex at Krievusala area

On Friday, public discussions started in the Freeport of Riga on the development of the Krievusala area, the port informs. The project envisages the following engineering: land reclamation and construction of four berths along Daugava river (205 meters) as well as three berths along Hapaku canal (180 meters). Besides, the port plans expansion and reconstruction of the navigation route and construction of utility systems and transport infrastructure, Delfi reports.

The island’s northern part will be occupied by terminal for transshipment of ro-ro, general and loose cargo. The terminals of the eastern part of the island will specialize exclusively on transshipment of loose cargo. New railway cargo station is to be built in the center of Krievusala, while administrative buildings are to be located at its southern part.

The capacity of the complex is to make 30 million tonnes per year. Its value is said to reach EUR 100 million including EUR 85 million to be allocated by EC funds. Public discussions are to last till May 27.
