China, France to build stronger transport partnerships

France is looking to expand cooperation with China in the transport sector, including possible involvement in the manufacture of commercial aircraft, according to French Transport Secretary Dominique Bussereau, who is on a three-day visit to the mainland.
Mr Bussereau said France does not simply see China as a huge market, but regards it as a good partner in industry, "China's large aircraft company is good news, and we would like to cooperate."
Last year, French-based Alstom signed two contracts valued at EUR350 million (US$541.4 million) with China's Ministry of Railways, producing 500 electric locomotives, and supplying electrified railway facilities for the Shijiazhuang-Taiyuan high-speed passenger railway project, a report by the China Daily said.
It noted that French shipping group CMA-CGM has invested US$120 million in China Railway Container Transport Corp Ltd. It has also ordered 18 container ships to be built in China.
