Canadian National Railway Company (CN) announced the opening of its new $6 million Chicago Grain Distribution Center. The center was designed to ship grain via containers to overseas markets from Chicago, Illinois, U.S., a major rail hub for grain produced in the Midwestern U.S. "This new Chicago facility will add critical mass to our backhaul traffic capabilities for export markets in Asia," James M. Foote, CN executive vice-president for sales and marketing said. CN’s new container stuffing facility is within the company’s Intermodal Terminal in Harvey, Illinois, U.S., which removes the need for drayage to and from offsite stuffing facilities. The company will offer intermodal service from the new Chicago facility to the ports of Prince Rupert, Vancouver, Montreal, Halifax and New Orleans. The Chicago terminal is equipped to handle grain, corn (maize), soybeans, distiller dried grain with solubles (DDGS) and other dry grain products, the company said.
