Ukraine’s Ministry of Transport and Communications plans to develop container transportation, the head of the Ministry Josef Vinsky told at the meeting with Walter Schulze Freyberg, Director General of Polzug Intermodal GmbH.
"Last years saw high growth rates of container transportation but we plan to increase the rates. We are interested in companies experienced in this business," the Minister said according to LIGABusinessInform.
Cooperation between Ukrzaliznitsa and Polzug Intermodal GmbH was discussed at the meeting in respect to upgrading and construction of container terminals as well as arrangement of a railway container service Slavkuv – Kiev and Slavkuv – Odessa/Iljichevsk. "Our task is to find a partner and to develop container transportation," Vinsky emphasized. Polzug Intermodal GmbH is a joint venture of Polish Railways (PKP), HHLA and DB Cargo AG with over 100 employees. Polzug operates block trains from Hamburg, Bremerhaven and Rotterdam to Poland, the Baltic States, the CIS, Mongolia and Afghanistan and vice versa. In Poland, Polzug is the market leader in intermodal transport. Polzug Intermodal GmbH is supported by its subsidiary Polzug Intermodal Polska S.A., which operates four state-of the-art container terminals.
