In 2008, Oktyabrskaya Railway (branch of Russian Railways) plans to invest RUR 106 mln into reconstruction of Sonkovo-Khvoinaya-Budogoshch-Kirishi-Mga section, the company informs. The section is to be reconstructed within the framework of a project aimed at arrangement of railway approaches to the port of Ust-Luga. It is planned to electrify the sections, install electric interlocking devices and automatic block systems, build secondary main tracks and open temporary and permanent passing stations and alternative routes.
Besides, it is planned to reconstruct Sonkovo and Khvoinaya stations.
The company currently carries out design work and prepares necessary documentation. The project is being implemented jointly with Northern Railway, which is to undertake the same reconstruction. Upon completion of the above works, part of cargo flow will be directed to the section from Trans-Siberia Railway.
