In January-May, 2008, throughput of commercial seaport Yuzhny totaled 9.088.6 million tonnes of cargo (+4.6% against plan), the seaport informs.
In the reported period, cargo handling amounted to 6.118.6 million tonnes (+5.8% against plan). In the 5-month period the port handled 548 vessels and 68,049 open-top wagons.
In May 2008, the port’s throughput totaled 1.884.1 million tonnes (+8% against plan). Cargo handling amounted to 1.266.2 million tonnes (+8.7% against plan). In May the port handled 102 vessels and 13,630 open-top wagons.
Yuzhny port is located at the north-western coast of the Black Sea, in ice-free Maly Adzhalyksky (Grigorievsky) estuary, 30 km from Odessa port. The port provides all-the-year-round navigation. The port’s approach channel is 2 miles long and 14.5 meters deep. As of today, Yuzhny is the second largest port in Ukraine in terms of throughput which is 20.698.6 million tonnes per year.
