Schenkerrailog was founded eight years ago as a joint venture with Deutsche Bahn. Nowadays Schenker's subsidiary Railog, which specialises in rail logistics, will be more closely integrated along with Fertrans AG as part of the Schenker organisation.
This means that customers throughout Europe will be able to include rail transport in their planning and process control more effectively than in the past, as well as take advantage of the economic and ecological benefits of rail as a means of transport over medium to long distances, a company statement said.
Last year the company handled the transport by rail of more than six million tons of goods, using over 200,000 freight cars for its operations, including block trains which cross the entire European continent.
DB Schenkerrailog takes on responsibility for all the processes that are involved from the organisation of the transport to the purchase of freight capacity and through to final delivery to the recipient. Transshipment services and warehousing facilities are available as well along the transport chain.
