Russia is doing its best for securing the release of sailors from the Amiya Scan ship, captured off the Somalia coast on May 27, a representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry told Itar-Tass on Monday. He reminded that four of its crewmembers are Russian nationals.
“The most important thing in this situation is not to further aggravate the situation and not to put in jeopardy the lives of the hostages,” he stressed. In his opinion, the talks should not be open for the public and should not worsen the situation.
The Amiya Scan flying the Panamanian flag was going from the port of Mombasa, Kenya, to Constanta, Romania. It was transporting a dismantled oil platform. The boat was captured, when it was going out of the Gulf of Aden. The crew of the ship is made up of nine people. Four of them, including the skipper and the skipper’s mate, are Russians and the rest are from the Philippines. The ship was chartered by the Scan-Trans Shipping firm of Denmark.
