Sevmash FSUE plans to start construction of the first floating nuclear power station (NPS) in the second half of 2007, the company’s press center says according to АК&М. On November 8-9, 2006 Sevmash held a session dedicated to the issues of engineering change in the project of non-propelled vessel - floating power plant - and terms for delivery of equipment for construction of floating NPS. The next meeting dedicated to construction of nuclear thermoelectric low-power station is to be held in Moscow on December 20.
Earlier (on July 14), Rosatom, Rosenergoatom and Sevmash signed a protocol on construction of the first nuclear thermoelectric low-power station (70 MWt) on the basis of floating power plant with reactor facility KLT-40C. The construction and the development of coastal infrastructure is scheduled to be finalized in May 2010. According to initial estimations the station is to be costing RUR 9.1 billion. Sevmash management believes the value may be considerably decreased through optimization of expenses. A number of foreign countries are interested in such stations since they may be used not only for heat-and-energy supply, but for desalination of water as well.
