Finland based Containerships redirects its cargo flows from Liepaja to Klaipeda

Finland based Containerships has redirected its cargo flows from the port of Liepaja to Klaipeda harbor. Earlier the company cooperated with both ports.

As RZD-Partner learnt from Klaipedos terminalo grupe (KTG, Lithuania) handling containers in the port of Klaipeda, the agreement on cooperation with Containerships has been in force for several years already but now Containerships handles all its containers at Lithuanian terminal.

According to KTG expert, the increase of cargo volumes will require deepening from 9.5 meters to 12 meters, which is the competence of Klaipeda seaport Direction.

Planned investment into the development of the harbour infrastructure makes some $100 million for 2008.

In the first half of 2008, KTG handled 147,200 TEU (+5%, year-on-year).

Containerships Group is a Finland based door-to-door short sea carrier providing regular services linking key industrial and retail customers in Finland, Russia, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, the Baltic States and Western Europe via ports in the Baltic, North Sea and UK areas.
