RF Ministry of Transport empowers Bureau Veritas to survey Russian-flagged vessels
On July 22, Aleksei Klyavin, Director of the Department for the State Policy of Sea and River Transport of the RF Ministry of Transport, signed an agreement with Bureau Veritas of France (member of the International Association of Classification Societies) on empowering of Bureau Veritas to survey and certification of vessels registered with the Russian International Register of Vessels. On the part of the society, the agreement was signed by Bernard Anne,Executive vice president and Managing Director of the Marine Division of Bureau Veritas.
According to the press center of the Ministry of Transport, Bureau Veritas is the second foreign Classification Society to be authorized by the RF Transportation Ministry for the above activities.
Under the agreement, Russian ship owners may have their vessels surveyed by Bureau Veritas and may obtain certificates related to safe navigation and protection of marine environment against pollution in compliance with international agreements of the Russian Federation.
The agreement is one of the measures aimed at implementation the Federal Law on Russian International Register of Vessels. The ceremony was attended by the heads of the Federal Agency of Marine and River Transport, Federal Service for Transport Supervision, Union of Russian Shipowners (SOROSS) and Association of Shipping Companies (ASC).
