In January-June 2008, Russian Railways OJSC carried 677.6 million tonnes of cargo (+2.9%, year-on-year), the company informs. The highest dynamics was demonstrated by Kaliningrad Railway (+17.4%), Krasnoyarsk Railway (+16.2%), Far East Railway (+5.9%), East Siberia Railway (+ 5.7%) and South Urals Railway (+5.6%).
Transportation of coal grew by 5.4%, coke (+9.8%), crude and oil products (+1.1%), iron and manganese (+1.4%), ferrous metal (+4.9%), chemical and mineral fertilizers (+3.5%), construction cargoes (+7.5%).
Cargo turnover of the entire network of railways grew by 8.1% to 1,228.6 bln t-km.
In the first half of 2008 Russian Railways increased revenue from its core activities by 12.7%, year-on-year, to RUR 528.6 billion (from cargo transportation – by 12.8%, from passenger transportation – by 13.6%.
In the reported period carrier cost grew by 11% with a 8.7-pct increase of prices in industry. As of July 1, accounts receivable totaled RUR 80 bln (by the beginning of the year it grew by RUR 15.7 bln. Accounts payable increased by 13/4%, year-on-year, to RUR 144.2 bln.
The company’s net profit amounted to RUR 18.8 bln.
