Mediterranean Shipping switches NY-NJ terminals

Mediterranean Shipping Co. will transfer its vessel calls at the Port of New York and New Jersey from Maher Terminals to the adjacent Port Newark Container Terminal, effective Oct. 1.
The Port Newark terminal covers 180 acres and has estimated annual capacity of 1 million 20-foot equivalent units. MSC will be the terminal’s largest customer. MSC moved 445,592 TEUs, excluding empty boxes, through New York-New Jersey last year, according to PIERS Global Intelligence Solutions.
PNCT is owned by Ports America, which recently won a contract with an MSC affiliate, Terminal Investments, to develop a terminal at the Port of Oakland.
