Trade flows via seaports of Finland in five straight month of this year gained 4,3% compared with the same period of 2009, to 32,457.000 tons of cargo, the Association of Finnish ports statement said.
The Jan.-May ports’ statistics show a 2.9-percent growth in inbound cargo, to 17,572.178 tons, and a 6-percent rise in outbound cargo over the same period of 2009, to 14,884,986 tons. The five-month report said the largest freight traffic volume passed through the Port of Sköldvik, 5,684.616 tons, (down 17.7% from Jan-May, 2009).
Five-month throughput of the port of Kotka rose by 6.8% compared with the same period last year, to 3,521.655 tons, cargo turnover at the port of Helsinki during the period grew by 10.9%, to 4,411.442 tons. Hamina Port’s freight volume increased by 35% - to 1,539.666 tons. Port of Oulu reported a 8-percent gain in handled cargo, to 1,143.569 tons.
Last year’s freight volume passing via seaports of Finland totaled 78,701,163 tons, a 17.9-percent decline year-over-year.
