Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co received a US$975 million order for 10 container vessels, its first box-ship contract in two years, as the global economic rebound revives world trade.
The vessels, each able to carry as many as 8,400 20-foot boxes, will be delivered by the first quarter of 2014, Seoul-based Daewoo Shipbuilding, the world's second-largest shipbuilder, said, but it did not identify the buyer.
Daewoo's next-biggest rival Samsung Heavy Industries Co earlier this month announced a US$1 billion contract for 10 container vessels from Evergreen Group.
