Trade using surface transportation between the United States and Canada and Mexico rose 4.6 percent in value in June from May and increased 37.6 percent from June 2009, the Transportation Department reported.
The $69.9 billion value of U.S. trade with the nation’s North American Free Trade Agreement partners during June was 5.8 percent below the pre-recession level of June 2008.
Surface transportation by truck, rail and pipeline accounted for 86.6 percent of the value of U.S. NAFTA trade in June.
U.S.-Canada surface transportation trade totaled $42 billion in June, up 35.5 percent compared with June 2009. The value of imports carried by truck was 35.8 percent higher in June 2010 compared to June 2009. The value of exports carried by truck was up 34.2 percent.
U.S.-Mexico surface transportation trade totaled $27.8 billion in June, up 41 percent compared from a year earlier. The value of imports carried by truck was 37.9 percent higher in June 2010 than June 2009. The value of exports carried by truck was 34.5 percent higher.
