Nine-month container trade of Hong Kong Port (China) in January-September 2010 increased by 13.1% compared with the same period last year, to 17,507,000 TEUs, the Port Authority statistics said. The largest container terminal Kwai Tsing Yi handled in the reporting period 12,761,000 TEUs, or 13.6% up from the last year’s digits.
This September container throughput rose 4.9% to 1,939,000 TEUs.
Port of Hong Kong is a leading global port. In 2009, Hong Kong port's container trade shrank by 14.6% year-over-year, to 20.9 million TEUs. Port capacity is 456,000 ships a year.
