Nine-month traffic volume of Azov-Don Shipping Comp. up 19%, to 4m tons

Shipments of the Azov-Don Shipping Company Group in the January-September 2010 increased by 19% compared with the same period last year, to 4.057 million tons, the Group’s press-service reported.

In the reporting period the Group transported largely cereals (a 30-percent share of the total volume), coal (30%), mineral fertilizers (20%), and other goods (10%).

The Azov-Don Shipping Company traffic routes are passing through the ports of Rostov, Ust-Donetsk, Astrakhan, Kavkaz, and the ports of Turkey, Greece, Lebanon, Syria, Egypt and Israel.

Nine-month freight turnover of the Group’s stevedoring companies soared 88 percent to 2,985,000 tons, thanks to the launch of a coal terminal at Rostov Universal Port and an increase in the volume of mineral fertilizer at the port of Ust-Donetsk.

Mineral fertilizer makes up 50% of the total freight volume transshipped by the stevedores, coal - 40%, construction materials - 7%, other goods - 3%. The cargo were handled at the terminals of Rostov and Krasnodar regions.

Group of companies Azov-Don Shipping Company was established in 2003. The Group incorporates over 20 enterprises of water transport: shipping and stevedoring companies, ship repair and non-metallic enterprises, development companies.
