Port of Helsinki cargo volume grows 12% to 4,3m tons
Freight traffic volume passing via the port of Helsinki (Finland) in January-May 2011 increased by 12% from the same period a year before, to 4.3 million tons, the Port Authority statistics said. In May the port’s stevedores handled 944,000 tons, up 5% from last year’s figure.
Handling of imports rose by 9% to 2,2 million tons, exports - by 3% to 2,1 million tons.
Passenger traffic in May amounted to 872,000 people, which is 4% more than in May last year. In January-May the port handled 3,7 million passengers, up 5% over the same period in 2010.
Port of Helsinki is a largest port in Finland. Cargo throughput of the port in 2010 grew by 12% y-o-y to 10,921,000 tons, container traffic rose 11% to 399,903 TEUs, Ro-Ro cargo shipments totaled 488,772 units (+13%).
