Hanjin upgrades carbon calculator system
Hanjin Shipping has upgraded its carbon calculator system as the global shipping industry starts showing greater concerns over emissions, Seatrade Asia online reports. The South Korean liner announced Wednesday that its Supply Chain Carbon Calculator, developed and introduced back in December 2009, is upgraded to provide information by period, multiple destinations and bill of lading number. The former system was able to calculate only the amount of carbon dioxide emissions from one location to another. “We have noticed that our customers are becoming more and more conscious of their carbon footprint in line with the industry-wide efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions,” Hanjin Shipping said. The Supply Chain Carbon Calculator is created based on the company's vessel emission factors calculated according to the IMO and Clean Cargo Working Group carbon dioxide calculation methodology, and verified by classification society DNV.
